AMSOIL’s winter substitute for colder climates 0W-40
A unknown solution to improve cold start problems and thwart wear
I don’t sell much of this one but it would be my first choice in the winter if I needed some sort of a 40-weight diesel motor oil. When protecting your diesel the most important issue you want when considering a motor oil is how well it will prevent wear.

Worried about going to a 0W-40 viscosity in your work truck? No Problem
Naturally you want the thickest oil you can get otherwise you may have more wear or use oil.. Well if the truck calls for a 15W-40 and there is no mention of 10W-30 or 5w-30 (popular in newer diesels and much much older heavy duty off road equipment diesel engines) you would certainly not want to vary from that.. But if it calls for a 15W-40, a 5W-40 is still in the manufacturers bracket for operating viscosity except with the 5W-40 you don’t have to wait so long as it warms up to flow properly where you need it.. Thus a 0W-40 is also never thinner than the 15W-40 once the engine warms up but the bonus and only difference is you get better flow at start-up and as it’s warming up.. Nothing at all to sacrifice.
As for the AMSOIL brand the reason the box shows 4X protection (like the Heavy Duty line) vs 6X protection is mainly due to the adjustment in additives which make up the space in the bottle. But as you see below the service interval is not effected!!
SERVICE LIFE
Diesel Engine Service Life
Heavy-Duty On-/Off-Road: Three times (3X) OEM1 recommendation, not to exceed 60,000 miles/600 hours or one year, whichever comes first.
Turbodiesel Pickup: Two times (2X) OEM1 recommendation, not to exceed 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.
Competition Service Life: Provides lasting protection for multiple events. Use oil analysis to determine appropriate drain interval.
Gasoline Engine Service Life
Two times (2X) OEM1 recommendation, not to exceed 15,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.
Drain intervals may be extended further with oil analysis.
1Refer to your owner’s manual for OEM drain interval recommendations and guidelines for severe and normal service.
Note: Extended drain intervals are not recommended for performance-modified engines, when using biofuels containing more than 10 percent ethanol or 15 percent biodiesel (B15) or for 2007-2009 Caterpillar* C13 and C15 on-highway engines. Extend drain intervals beyond OEM recommendations in these instances only with oil analysis. Note: 2007-2010 Dodge**, Ford** and GM** turbodiesel pickups are also not recommended for extended drain intervals when using DHD.
Excels in Extreme Temperatures
AMSOIL Signature Series Max-Duty 0w-40 Synthetic Diesel Oil resists thermal (heat) breakdown better than conventional and competing synthetic diesel oils. Unlike conventional oils, Signature Series contains no wax, staying fluid in sub-zero temperatures for easier starting, improved oil flow and reduced wear. Signature Series 0W-40 (DZF) has a broad viscosity range that offers 4X better cold-cranking ability than a 15W-40, making it excellent for use in both hot-operating engines and cold-weather starting extremes.
